Course Overview
This two-day advanced CPD course is designed for existing practitioners who want to develop their scalp micropigmentation knowledge and practical skills.
The course includes SMP theory, scalp and hair anatomy, client consultation, contraindications, infection control, equipment, needles, pigments, colour theory, treatment planning, hairline design, practical exercises, a written knowledge test and supervised live-model training.
This course supports professional development and is not an initial regulated SMP qualification.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must:
● be aged 18 or over;
● have previous professional training or experience in a relevant field;
● understand basic skin anatomy, infection prevention, client consultation, contraindications and safe needle handling.
Relevant professional backgrounds may include SMP, permanent makeup, micropigmentation, microblading, tattooing, medical aesthetics, hair restoration, beauty therapy or another relevant skin or needle-based treatment.
A previous SMP qualification is beneficial but not compulsory.
Eligibility is reviewed before enrolment.
Course Objectives

● pre-care and aftercare.

Course Structure
Day 1 — Theory and practical skills
10:00–10:30 — Welcome and orientation
Course objectives, professional expectations, health and safety information.
10:30–12:00 — SMP theory
Scalp and hair anatomy, hair-loss classifications, client suitability, medical history and contraindications.
12:00–14:00 — Equipment and treatment planning
Machines, needles, pigments, colour theory, skin-tone considerations, treatment planning and tutor demonstration.
14:00–15:00 — Lunch break
15:00–17:00 — Practical exercises
Workstation preparation, infection control, hairline mapping and practice on latex or synthetic scalp surfaces.
17:00–18:00 — Technique development
Implantation control, dot size, spacing, density, layering, common errors and tutor feedback.
Day 1 learning time: 7 hours
Day 2 — Assessment and supervised live-model training
10:00–10:30 — Written knowledge test
A short 10-question test based on the pre-course materials and Day 1 theory.
10:30–12:00 — Client consultation
Medical-history review, contraindication screening, scalp assessment and treatment planning.
12:00–14:00 — Clinical preparation
Workstation setup, infection control, consent, photography, documentation, hairline mapping and pigment preparation.
14:00–15:00 — Lunch break
15:00–17:00 — Supervised live-model treatment
Practical participation under continuous trainer supervision.
17:00–18:00 — Completion and feedback
Aftercare, clinical reset, reflection and tutor feedback.
Day 2 learning time: 7 hours
Total learning time: 14 hours
Assessment
Assessment includes:
● one written knowledge test on the morning of Day 2;
● continuous trainer observation during the practical training.
The written test covers client safety, contraindications, infection prevention, equipment, needles, pigments, treatment planning and aftercare.
Pass mark: 80%
Incorrect answers are reviewed with the trainer. Where required, the delegate may repeat the test.
During the practical training, the trainer observes safe working practices, infection control, workstation preparation, treatment planning, ability to follow instructions and professional communication.
No post-course case studies or additional models are required.
Certification
Delegates who attend the full course and complete the assessment receive a:
Certificate of Attendance confirming 14 learning hours
The certificate confirms attendance and participation in Continuing Professional Development.
It does not replace a regulated SMP qualification, professional insurance or applicable licensing requirements.
The CPD Certified logo will be added following formal course approval.

Course materials, practical equipment and consumables used during the training are provided.
Delegates should wear comfortable professional clothing and closed-toe footwear.
Kitchen facilities and secure storage for personal belongings are available.
